Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
– 1st Timothy 4:12
For me, it is an all too familiar sight, where people my age are constantly dismissed when taking on larger ministry opportunities because we are young. Especially in the more traditional cultures, (aka the asian culture) elders seem to hold all the authority, whereas youth hold little or no say in anything.
When we (ppl my age) want to teach Sunday school, we told that we are not mature enough and should try children’s ministry. When we want to hold workshops, we have to leap over hurdles and steeples in order to show that we do have something to say. And when we want to guest speak or share publicly in-front of our peers, it seems like we have to get a pastoral degree before we’ll get a chance.
But why? Why is it like that?

You are the source of life
I can’t be left behind
No one else will do
I will take hold of You
I need You Jesus to come to my rescue
Where else can I go?
There’s no other name by which I am saved
Capture me with grace
I will follow You
This world has nothing for me
I will follow You
This world has nothing for me
I will follow You

there is something mysterious in seeing someone else love God more than I do,
it’s almost as if I was jealous.
jealous of why I’m not able to know God like they do
and that has been one big inpsiration this term for me.
“they say you have to see someone else love something before you can learn to love it youself”
and yah, when almost everyone I meet here in Beijing
has sacrificed everything in order to come here and do missions or God’s work,
and expresses that grand love for God
I am really inspired by what I see
It’s like a glimps into where God is calling me to go
I’m glad I spent my term here in Beijing!

“Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.” Terri (age 4)
“Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.” Danny (age 7)
“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.” Noelle (age 7)
“Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.” Elaine (age 5)

“I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.” Lauren (age 4)
“You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget,” Jessica (age 7)
